2026 Open Juried Show
OJS General Information
- Exhibit Dates: March 30th through May 25th
- Exhibit Location: Bangor Public Library, Cyr Gallery & Minsky Lecture Hall (3rd floor)
- Deadline for Art Submission: Thursday, March 26th
- Artwork Drop-Off: Thursday, March 26th, 10 am to 5 pm. All artwork must be hand-delivered to the Bangor Public Library, Minsky Lecture Hall (3rd floor), 145 Harlow Street, Bangor, ME
- Juror’s Review: March 27th, 10 am to 5 pm
- Installation/Hanging Date: Saturday, March 28th
- Artists’ Reception & Award Presentation: Thursday, April 9th, 6 pm to 8 pm
- Dismantling and Artwork Pickup dates: Tuesday, May 26th, and Wednesday, May 27th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The Bangor Public Library will receive a 20% commission from the sale of any artwork exhibited in the OJS.

Awards
Award Categories*
- Painting: Oils, Acrylic, Encaustic
- Paintings on Paper: Watercolor, Gouache
- Drawing: Charcoal, Graphite, Pastel, Pen & Ink
- Mixed Media: Collage, Assemblage
- Printmaking: Screen Printing, Monoprinting, Wood Block (Originals only, no photography)
- Sculpture: 3-dimensional in-the-round, relief (over 2 inches in depth), ceramics, glass, jewelry. Sculpture entries should come with a pedestal or be manageable enough size-wise to sit on a table or countertop
- Best in Show: All categories combined (one winner)
First Place, Second Place, and Third Place will be awarded in all categories listed above, except the Best in Show category, which will be awarded to one winner only.
*BAS reserves the right to reassign artwork entries into a different category as necessary.
Submission Guidelines
Artwork Entry Limit: Up to 2 pieces of artwork per artist.
Any artwork submitted for entry by any one artist beyond their first 2 pieces will be rejected and disqualified from entry into the show. Entry fees are not refundable.
Entry Fee: The entry fee for submitting 1 or 2 artworks is as below:
- BAS Members: $40
- Non-members: $50. If you wish to become a BAS member, please go to the “Join Us” page on The Bangor Art Society website.
Deadline for artwork submission is March 26, 2026, at 5:00 pm.
Artwork Criteria
- Artwork must be the artist’s own original work with no part of the artwork infringing upon the copyright of any third party.
- Although nude art is acceptable in BAS art competitions, it must be in good taste. Graphic erotic art and art that depicts graphic sexual violence is not acceptable. Acceptance into BAS exhibitions is not guaranteed and is solely at the discretion of BAS. Entry fees are not refundable.
- NAME YOUR IMAGE FILE: Please use the following format to name your image file before uploading on the OJS Entry Form: Last name_First name_Artwork Title (Example: Doe_Jane_My Awesome Artwork.jpg).
