About The BAS

We are a non-profit 501(c)(4) association dedicated to promoting art and encouraging the creative spirit through a variety of programs, events and art student scholarships.

The Bangor Art Society (BAS) meetings, which often feature artist presentations, are open to the public and take place from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Bangor Public Library on the third Tuesday of the month. New members and interested artists are encouraged to attend these meetings, which include art-making, sharing of resources, and networking opportunities. We welcome new artists and new ideas, taking delight in passionate, creative spirits!

Yearly BAS events typically include an All-Member Show in February, an Open Juried Show in April/May, Paint Bangor Day in July which culminates into a silent auction, and the Annual Auction in November.

Brief History of The Bangor Art Society

Established in 1875, the Bangor Art Society is a visionary group of artists from across the region that network and create art monthly. Following in the footsteps of their founders, Jeremiah Pearson Hardy and his daughter Anna Eliza Hardy, the Art Society hosts guest artists and speakers, curates projects, and provides visual art exhibitions, sales and art shows year-round. Its largest event is the annual Open Juried Show every spring, awarding thousands of dollars in cash prizes to visual artists in various categories.
